Obituary

John L. Hoorman

OTTAWA- John L. Hoorman, 91, of Ottawa passed away 4:50 a.m. Sunday, March 22, 2026 at The Meadows of Ottawa. He was born February 15, 1935 in Glynwood, OH, to the late Charles and Yulida (King) Hoorman. On April 15, 1961 he married Marie Meyer, who survives in Ottawa.

John is also survived by his five children: Jim (Marlene) Hoorman of Jenera, JoAnn (Carl) Reindel of Kalida, Paula (Mark) Radabaugh of Luckey, Linda (Steve) Ellerbrock of Leipsic and Mark (Andrea) Hoorman of Columbus Grove. His grandchildren include Jonathan (Maggie) Hoorman, Jason (Ashley) Reindel, Stacey (Curt) Schnipke, Ashley Reindel, Nicole Fischbach, Bradley (Katie) Radabaugh, Jacob (Breanna Ruiz) Radabaugh, Nicholas (Ryleigh Dye) Radabaugh, Emily (Trevor) Crites, Ben Ellerbrock, Greg Ellerbrock, Hayley (Berto) Ritz-Balcarcel, Maggie (Dakota Warnimont) Hoorman, Payton Hoorman and Avery Hoorman. Great-grandchildren include Annie, Henry and Luke Reindel; Will, Addy and Jaxson Schnipke; Teya Fischbach and Beau Radabaugh. He is also survived by three sisters, Virginia Hoyt, Theresa (Thomas) Fortman and Bettie Weber; and a sister-in-law, Dani Hoorman.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Michelle Hoorman; brothers, Eugene (Ruth) Hoorman and James Hoorman; and a sister, Margaret (Tom) Hanneman; brothers-in-law, John Hoyt, Charles Birkemeier and Ken Weber.

John retired as an electrician from Philips in Ottawa after 43 years. He was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War. He loved to tell jokes, garden, bird watch, fish and tinker on things; it was often referred to as "John'ing things up". John was a member of the Ottawa Knights of Columbus and Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, where he taught religious education and was a Eucharistic Minister. He enjoyed singing in the church choir and in the Putnamaires barbershop chorus. John could often be found volunteering at the thrift store and for Putnam County Council on Aging, where he received the volunteer of the year award. He was proud to be the founding father of the Hoorman Moose Club.

Funeral Mass will begin 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa VFW, American Legion, AMVETS and DAV. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and again Wednesday from 11:30 to 12:30 at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. There will be a K of C Rosary beginning Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Life Center or Putnam County Homecare and Hospice.
