John Kenneth "JK" Moening

KALIDA—John Kenneth "JK" Moening, 90, of Kalida died 1:44 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2016 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.  He was born February 8, 1926 in Toledo to the late John W. and Ruth (Smith) Moening.  He married his wife of nearly 69 years, Phyllis Webken, on June 7, 1947, and she survives in Kalida.

He is also survived by his 8 children:  Ronald (Joan) Moening of Forrest, Paul Moening and Leonard (Amy Niese) Moening, both of Kalida, Linda (Steve) Nienberg of Ottawa, Marilyn Sehlhorst and Barb (Joe) Sehlhorst, both of Kalida, Kathy (John) Leap of Ottawa and Patty (Dale) Winkle of Kalida; 27 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death is a son:  Stephen Moening; grandson:  Jordan David Moening; sister:  Jeanette Moening; and 2 brothers:  James and Donald Moening.

JK was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida and was a Navy Veteran of WWII.  He retired as a toolmaker from S. K. Wayne, Defiance.  He was a member of the Ottawa American Legion and VFW and was a member of the Ottawa Eagles.  He enjoyed riding his scooter to visit family, friends and the neighbors.  He enjoyed playing cards, and "occasionally" cheated.  He loved to sing, dance and entertain; and was known for joyfully teasing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Father Mark Hoying officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Military rites will be by the Ottawa American Legion, VFW and Am Vets.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township where a scripture service will be held at 3p.m. and a VFW and American Legion service will be held at 7p.m.
