John E. Niese

LEIPSIC – John E. Niese, 70, of Leipsic, died at 10:28 p.m., Thursday, January 26, 2023 at his residence surrounded by family. He was born May 10, 1952 in Lima to the late Victor and Monica (Miller) Niese.  On June 20, 1970, he married Phyllis Schnipke, who survives in Leipsic.

Other survivors include five children: Michelle Steen of Ottawa, Dawn (John) Fields, Lori Niese both of Columbus, Victor Niese of Leipsic and Jason (Amy) Niese of Findlay; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; eleven siblings: Rose (Charles) Schroeder of Glandorf, Tony (JoAnn) Niese of Tuscan, AZ, Norma (Ken) Brickner of Ottawa, Ed Niese of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Fr. Larry Niese of Atlanta, GA, Ron (Jodi) Niese of Leipsic, Vickie (Bob) Brickner of Glandorf, Mary (Ken) Schumaker of Ft. Jennings, Tom (Tina) Niese of Miller City, Rick (Connie) Niese of Leipsic and Donna (Mark) Scott of Ottawa.

He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Marcia Niese; and son-in-law, John Steen.

John was a truck driver for Chamberlin Farms, Landstar-Inway, where he earned his Million Miler award, Niese Leasing and Wenham.  He had over 4 million miles under his belt since he started truck driving at a young age. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City. John enjoyed cowboy movies and working on vehicles with his sons.  He was a great storyteller, was known for his great BBQ chicken and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral Mass will begin 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City with Father Larry Niese officiating.  Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m., Monday, January 30, 2023, and 9 - 9:30 a.m., Tuesday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic
