John Victor Ruhe
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - John Victor Ruhe, 33, of Colorado Springs, CO, formerly of Ottawa, died May 16, 2026, in Colorado Springs. He was born June 11, 1992, in Lima to Gene and Nancy (Baldwin) Ruhe, who survive in Ottawa.
Other survivors include: brother, Scott (Megan) Ruhe of Ottawa; sisters: Julie (Tom) Flannagan of Perrysburg and Shelley (Matt) Utrup of Ottawa; niece, Amelia Utrup; and nephews: Thomas Flannagan, Henry Flannagan, Logan Flannagan, Ryan Flannagan, Charlie Utrup, and Urban Ruhe.
John was preceded in death by paternal grandparents: Urban and Marie Ruhe; and maternal grandparents: Charles and Elizabeth Baldwin.
John was an Eagle Scout for Troop #224. A 2011 graduate of Ottawa Glandorf High School, John additionally earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Cyber Security from WGU. John was a proud Air Force veteran where he spent time in the Honor Guard at Ft. Lewis McCord. After leaving the Air Force, he was employed working for the Space Force, most recently as Sr. Site Reliability Engineer with ENSCO. A highly accomplished cybersecurity professional, he held advanced industry certifications, including the prestigious CISSP designation.
Growing up, John traveled the country and camped with his family. This included multiple trips to the Grand Canyon. The most special Grand Canyon trip was a hike to the bottom with his family and friends.
John loved the outdoors, especially hiking and camping in Colorado. John always enjoyed time with his friends; riding motorcycles, playing his guitar, and hanging out. In Colorado he learned to skate and enjoyed weekly hockey games with fellow veterans. John’s friends talk about his kindness and ability to bring groups of people together.
His family remembers him as fun, loving, and always looking for adventure. John was a great uncle to the Flannies, Utrups, and Urban. His niece and nephews loved him.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026 and one hour prior to Mass on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. A scripture service will be held at 7:50 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the funeral home.
