John R. Schnipke
CLOVERDALE – John R. Schnipke, 74, of Cloverdale, passed away at 10:21 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Mercy Health Putnam County Ambulatory Care Center, Glandorf. He was born April 30, 1951, in Cloverdale to the late Vincent and Carmelita (Averesch) Schnipke. On April 6, 1974, he married Erma Reindel, who survives in Cloverdale.
Other survivors include six children: Mark Schnipke, John Schnipke, Jr., both of Cloverdale, Kelly (Steve) Fuerst of Columbus Grove, Michael (Sara) Schnipke of Cloverdale, Heather (Kurt) Walker and Abigail (Chad) Etgen, both of Ottoville; 11 grandchildren: Brady Fuerst, Breanne Fuerst, Benjamin Fuerst, Brooklyn Fuerst, Gabriella Etgen, Emerson Schnipke, Raelyn Schnipke, Everly Schnipke, Christian Schnipke, Alayna Walker and Channing Walker; eight siblings: Mary Jane (Leroy) Wehri of Cloverdale, Alphonse (Amy) Schnipke of Rimer, Rose Ann (Duane) Lammers of Kalida, Lavern (Sherri) Schnipke of Bluffton, Dennis (Brenda) Schnipke of Ottoville, Vincent (Cheryl) Schnipke of Ft. Jennings, Patricia (John) Geiger of Oakwood and Brenda Brown of Bloomingdale; and in-laws: Ruth Wagner of Elida, Angela (Gary) Horstman, Carl (JoAnn) Reindel, Janet Winkle, Mary Heitmeyer and Donna Ellerbrock, all of Kalida.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Schnipke; and five brothers-in-law: Joe Brown, Ray Wagner, Stan Winkle, Fred Heitmeyer and Denny Ellerbrock.
John was a lifelong farmer. He graduated from THE Ohio State University, where he was a member of Delta Theta Sigma Fraternity. John was also a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida and its Holy Name Society, Cloverdale Game Club and Knights of Columbus. He loved OSU football, traveling, camping at Huggy Bear Campground, and going golf carting with the grandkids. One of his favorite pastimes was hanging out in the garage for friends and family to stop by for a drink and singing the Schnipke family song. He loved karaoke and family shenanigans.
Funeral Mass will begin 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 16, 2025, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday and again on Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
