John A. Schroeder

OTTAWA - John A. Schroeder, 86, of Ottawa, died Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at his residence. He was born January 1, 1935 in New Cleveland to the late Urban and Esther (Ellerbrock) Schroeder. On April 12, 1958, he married Janet Schortgen.  She survives in Ottawa.

Other survivors include three children: Denise Balbaugh of Ottawa, Donna (Gary) Wyland-Grillo of Powell and Duwayne (Linda) Schroeder of Spencerville, IN; seven grandchildren: Amanda (Mike) Bogardus, Jared Balbaugh, Justine (Kyle) Warnimont, Laina (Josh) Klingler, Lauren Atha Skinner, Katie Schroeder and Johnathon Schroeder; eight great-grandchildren: Bethany Balbaugh, Billy Bogardus, Zoey Bogardus, Charlotte Bogardus, Colt Warnimont, Weston Warnimont, Shelby Warnimont and Bentley Skinner; a sister, Mildred Schulte of Ottawa;  and a brother, Carl Schroeder of Orlando, FL.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Doug Schroeder;  a grandson, Justin Balbaugh; and nine siblings: Gerald Schroeder, Dorothy Fruchey Mayes, Daniel Schroeder, Eugene Schroeder, Clara Cavanaugh, Robert Schroeder, Irene Conklin, Eileen Niese and Bernard Schroeder.

John retired from General Motors, Defiance in 1990. He was a veteran of the United States Army during peacetime.  John was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, Ottawa VFW and lifetime member of the NRA.  He was a former parish councilman for Holy Family Catholic Church, New Cleveland. John loved to read, was an avid bike rider and enjoyed gardening.

Funeral mass will begin 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2021 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Father Scott Kramer officiating.  Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery, New Cleveland.  Visitation will be held 3 - 8 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2021 at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa with a scripture service at 7:50 p.m.
