HAMLER – John Francis Wilhelm, 67, of Hamler, passed away at 2:21 a.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. He was born July 31, 1955 in Lima to the late Harold and Mary Jane (Schwab) Wilhelm. On August 20, 1977, he married Pam McCallister, who survives in Hamler.
Other survivors include three children: Matt (Sara) Wilhelm of Bowling Green, Ben (Kelly) Wilhelm of Edgerton and Dana (Stuart) Moynihan of Gahanna; six grandchildren: Madison, Lukas, Molly, Joshua, Jack, Bruin and one more due in January; five siblings: Anne (Karl) Verhoff of Columbus Grove, George (Peg) Wilhelm of Wauseon, Sue (Bob) Buckland of Ottawa, Mark (Barb) Wilhelm of Deshler and Joan (Matt) Huber of Pittsburgh, PA; and many other relatives and dear friends.
John was a 1973 graduate of Leipsic High School and earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Bowling Green State University. He had worked as an educator, Principal of Holgate Elementary School, Superintendent of Patrick Henry School, Henry County Superintendent and later Superintendent of Northwest Educational Service Center. Most recently John worked with the Ohio Department of Education, where he taught classes for both BGSU and Lourdes College.
John was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Hamler. He served as past president of St. Paul's Parish Council and Henry County Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of Hamler State Bank and Henry County Hospital Board.
John loved his family dearly. He especially loved going on golf cart rides with his grandchildren, watching his grandchildren grow and become wonderful people. He enjoyed all things hunting, camping with dear friends and was an avid fan of Notre Dame football.
Funeral Mass will begin 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 12, 2022 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Hamler with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 – 8 p.m., Sunday, December 11, 2022, where a rosary will begin at 1:30 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic and Monday from 9:30 a.m.- 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, St. Paul's Catholic Church, Hamler or a charity of the donor's choice.
