Joseph Wayne Gyetvai
CONTINENTAL – With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Wayne Gyetvai, age 69, who left this world surrounded by the love of his family on October 9, 2024. Born on August 5, 1955, Joseph made his home in Continental, Ohio, where he lived a full life devoted to his faith, his family, and the simple joys that brought him happiness.
He was the son of Harry and Mina Opal (Varner) Gyetvai, both of whom have passed away. Joseph is survived by his siblings: Sylvia (David) Vogt, George (Deb) Gyetvai, Alice (Tim) Goedde, Jeff (Lisa) Gyetvai, and Nolan (Pat) Gyetvai. He is also reunited in heaven with his sisters, Nancy Verhoff and Teresa Gyetvai. Joseph was a devoted husband to Marlene (Ruen) Gyetvai, and a proud father to his children, Latimer (Christina) Gyetvai, Krystal (Nathan) Bowers, Brandon (Rachelle) Gyetvai and his bonus daughter, Billy Jo (Logan) Mettler. His greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren: Cole, Annika, Delaney, Rhettik, Keenan, Lucas, Gavin, Aiden, Opal, and Juniper, as well as his bonus grandchildren: Dominic, Danielle, Devin, Daylee, and Demi. His eyes would light up every time he saw them, and he never missed a chance to be there for their sporting events or spend time together on the back deck.
Joseph retired from GM and later drove trucks for Vorst Paving, but his heart was always most at home when he was outdoors. Whether tending to his yard or simply enjoying time outside, the outdoors brought him peace. His Christian faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding how he cared for his family and connected with others.
Joseph was a friendly, talkative man who loved to strike up conversations wherever he went. His playful, ornery sense of humor brought laughter to those around him. But above all, his family was his greatest love, and he never missed an opportunity to express how proud he was of his children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on October 11, 2024, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. at Kalida Family Outreach Center. Joseph's legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Arrangements are under the direction of HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental.
