Joseph G. "Joe" Lammers

LEIPSIC – Joseph G. "Joe" Lammers, 89, of Leipsic died after an extended illness at 12:18 p.m.  on  April 17, 2021  surrounded by family members at his residence.  He was born on January 3, 1932  to the late Sylvester and Clara (Schroeder) Lammers.  On December 29th, 1954 he married Alice Krietemeyer, who survives in Leipsic.

Also surviving are 8 children: Gary (Tina) Lammers of Kettering;  Kathy (Dave)  Burkhart of Glandorf;  Marlene Haubert of Tiffin;  Carol (Kevin) Lafountain of Williamsburg, VA;  John (Joyce) Lammers of Findlay;  Dale (Kim) Lammers of Plymouth, MI;  Beth (Greg) Ruhe of Leipsic;  Rick (Evonne Dwyer) Lammers of Westerville;    17 grandchildren: Daniel Burkhart, Mark Burkhart, Brian Burkhart, Greg Lammers, Erin Swallow, Josh Lafountain, Sam Lafountain, Emily Lafountain, Eric Haubert, Matt Haubert, Morgan Sedmak, Nathan Lammers, Lauren Lammers, Megan Lammers, Allison Ruhe, Madison Ruhe, and Avery Ruhe; 9 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and a sister-in-law, Dulce Lammers of Costa Rica.

Joseph was preceded in death by his brothers: Louis (Mary) Lammers, John Lammers, Harold (Eleanor) Lammers, Francis  Lammers, Jim Lammers; and sisters: Angela (Tom) Moening, Rita (Edward) Rieman and Mary Margaret (Alphonse) Maag.

Joseph was a farmer and painted barns, homes and outdoor buildings until he was eighty years old.  He served on the Miller City School Board for many years and served as clerk-treasurer for 20 years.  He was a member of the New Cleveland Holy Family Catholic Church all of his life and sang in the church choir for many years, and was a member of the Ottawa K of C.

Joseph was a starting forward on the undefeated state champion 1950 Miller City High School Basketball team.  He remained a loyal Wildcat fan for the rest of his life.  He loved the Cincinnati Reds and greatly enjoyed going to spring training in Florida and Arizona with family members for many years.

Alice and Joe celebrated 66 years of marriage in December. They loved the Marriage Encounter Anniversary dances where they often took first place for longest marriage!

Funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Cleveland with Monsignor Charles Singler officiating.  Burial will be in church cemetery at a  later date.  In keeping with the social distancing guidelines, a visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 & 5-8 p.m. and from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Wednesday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic. Due to regulations regarding COVID-19, masks are required upon entering the funeral home and church.  Memorial donations may be made to Putnam County Home Health and Hospice.  Condolences may be expressed at www.lovefuneralhome.com
