KALIDA- Joseph F. Langhals, Jr. 89, of Kalida died 4:35 a.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at The Meadows of Kalida. He was born March 26, 1932 in Lima to the late Joseph Sr. and Emma (Schroeder) Langhals. On June 23, 1956 he married the love of his life, Marie Osterhage who survives in Kalida. They were married 65 years.
Other survivors include seven children: Ann (Duane) Schroeder, Sharon (Randy) Askins, Joni (Ray) Miller, Gary (Marie) Langhals, Scott (Rosie) Langhals all of Kalida, Gina (John) Fischbach of Shawnee, and Amy (Greg) Miller of Lewis Center; 15 grandchildren: BJ Shartzer, Kelly Jordan, Emily Miller, Ross Askins, Megan Good, Ashley Miller, Adam Langhals, Abby Langhals, Samantha Langhals, Madison Langhals, Molly Fischbach, Kelsey Fischbach, Jack Fischbach, Colin Miller and Sophia Miller; 16 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Lou Ann Langhals of Kalida.
Joseph was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jo Langhals and a brother, Richard Langhals.
Joseph was co-founder of Kahle & Langhals Ready Mix. He was a US Army veteran after serving in the Korean War. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church Kalida and its Holy Name Society, Ottawa VFW and American Legion, Kalida Knights of Columbus, Ottawa Eagles, Lima Elks, and Kalida Lions Club. Joe loved golf having 5 holes-in-one; although still not enough to beat Marie with 6. He played a significant role in the development of Country Acres Golf Club. He enjoyed winters in Florida and loved his family and friends deeply.
Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 12, 2022 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa American Legion, VFW, Amvets and DAV. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Putnam County Home Care and Hospice or Kalida Baseball Association Holy Name Ballpark.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Putnam County Home Care and Hospice and The Meadows of Kalida for their wonderful care of Joe.
