Joseph A.  Schreiber

OTTAWA – Joseph A. Schreiber, 82, of Ottawa, passed away at 11:38 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family.  He was born April 18, 1942, in Miller City to the late George and Mildred (Koenig) Schreiber.  On June 8, 1968, he married Judith Niese, she survives in Ottawa.

Also surviving are four children:  Vicki (Tom) Maag, Joe (Tina) Schreiber, Eric Schreiber, and Jennifer (Nathan) Horstman, all of Ottawa; nine grandchildren:  Jacob (Victoria) Otto, Kazee (Austin) Lammers, Wilson Otto, Shayla (Noah) Dugger, Anika (Jacob Trehan) Schreiber, Chase Schreiber, Adison Horstman, Nolan Horstman, and Owen Horstman; three great-grandchildren: Beau Otto, Lainey and Hattie Lammers; and a sister:  Joyce D'Arcangelo of East Lake.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Richard Schreiber; a sister, Janet Imm; and two brothers-in-law, Frank D'Arcangelo and Bill Imm.

Joe retired from the Village of Ottawa and had served in the United States Navy. After retirement, he worked for several years at Finkbinder in Toledo and the Red Pig Inn.  He was a member of the Ottawa Fire Department, where he was a past fire chief, and a member of the Ottawa VFW, where he was a past commander.  He was also a member of the Ottawa American Legion, Middle Point AMVETS, Ottawa Eagles, Ottawa K of C, as well as Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa.  Joe enjoyed camping at Huggy Bear Campground, where you would often see him on his golf cart.  He would often cruise around checking on the kids and making sure everything was in order around town.  Joe had such a huge love for his grandkids, great-grandkids and all the bonus kids that came to his house.  They all loved getting his high-fives and knuckles.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Miller City, with military rites by the Ottawa VFW, American Legion, and AMVETS.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday, one hour prior to the Mass at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
