LEIPSIC – Joseph C. Snyder, 66, of Leipsic died at 6:37 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2012 at the Putnam County Ambulatory Care Center, Glandorf. He was born June 6, 1946 in Lima to the late Joseph J. and Kathryn (Kimmet) Snyder. His stepmother, Geneva Schroeder is also deceased. On June 14, 1969 he married Rose Rhine who survives in Leipsic.
Also surviving are 4 children: Rachael (Jerry) Averesch of Ottawa, Alicia (Steve) Ferguson of Leipsic, Kris Snyder of Leipsic, and Jeff (Amanda) Snyder of Perrysburg; 10 grandchildren: Emma and Anna Averesch, Becca Snyder, Kayla, Paige, and Breydon Ferguson, Ryan, Megan, Mackenzie, and Madison Verhoff and one grandson on the way, Aiden Snyder; a sister: Mary (Clete) Gerschutz of New Bavaria; 4 brothers-in-law: Kenneth, Jerry, Dave and Paul Rhine; and 2 sisters-in-law: Wanda Ickes and Frances Rhine. He was also preceded in death by a brother: Steven Snyder and 3 brothers-in-law: Dick, Wally, and Bob Rhine.
Joe was the Postmaster in Oakwood and retired in 2011. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Leipsic and its church choir. He was an Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam Era and a member of the Leipsic VFW and Ottawa Knights of Columbus. Joe was very kind hearted who loved being with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed the time he spent at Lake Erie and taking mini trips. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Cleveland Cavaliers fan and now a fan of the Miami Heat. He played Santa Claus in Oakwood for many years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Leipsic with Fr. George Wenzinger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Leipsic VFW. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic where there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to The James Cancer Center.
