Joseph L. Unverferth

KALIDA – Joseph L. Unverferth, 69, of Kalida, died at 3:15 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Select Specialty Hospital, Columbus. He was born October 9, 1953, in Lima to the late Richard and Gladys (Pugh) Unverferth.  On May 7, 1976, he married Kay Horstman, who survives in Kalida.

Other survivors include five children: Brett (Meredith) Unverferth, Scott (Sherry) Unverferth, Amy Unverferth, all of Kalida, Brian (Carlie Snyder) Unverferth and Craig (Stacey) Unverferth both of Columbus; ten grandchildren: Tyler, Amanda, Madison, Rylee, Jenna, Whitney, Zach, Mallory, Adam and Ada; five brothers: Steve (Linda) Unverferth of Kalida, Jeff (Debbie) Unverferth of Sylvania, Larry (Kathy) Unverferth, Dave (Becky) Unverferth and Chad (Chellie) Unverferth all of Kalida; and a sister-in-law, Joni Unverferth of Kalida.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Jim Unverferth and Mark Unverferth.

Joe was the territory manager for Unverferth Manufacturing, Kalida. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida, Kalida Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Kalida Fish and Game Club, Ottoville VFW, Ottawa American Legion and Columbus Grove Eagles. Joe was an avid Green Bay Packers, Detroit Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He loved war history, especially Civil War history and Mopar Cars.

Funeral Mass will begin 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 6, 2023 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Nathan Bockrath officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 – 8 p.m. on Thursday and 9 – 10 a.m. on Friday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township. A scripture service will begin at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
