Joyce A. Grote

OTTAWA (formerly of Ft. Jennings) – Joyce A. Grote, 70, of Ottawa, passed away at 4:42 a.m., Sunday, June 25, 2023 at The Meadows of Ottawa. She was born April 26, 1953, in Lima to the late Thomas and Henrietta (Hasenkamp) Calvelage.

Joyce is survived by three daughters: Kim Grote of Kalida, Denise Grote and Jennifer Grote, both of Ottawa; a granddaughter, Mackenzie Grote of Dupont; four siblings: twin sister, Janice (Dennis) Wehri of Bryan, Ruth Miehls of Columbus Grove, Joe (Donna) Calvelage of Ft. Jennings and John (Sharon) Calvelage of Bluffton; a sister-in-law, Karen Calvelage of Columbus Grove; and many nieces and nephews.

She is also preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Calvelage and brother-in-law, Earl Miehls, Jr.

Joyce was a 1971 graduate of Ft. Jennings High School. She worked many years as a Nurses Aide, but her favorite job was mother and grandmother. Joyce was a member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Ft. Jennings Council 88.

Funeral Mass will begin 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ft. Jennings with Fr. Stephen Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 – 8 p.m., Friday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township and one hour prior to Mass on Saturday at the church. A C.L. of C. Parish Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
