Judith Ann Machunas
CLOVERDALE – Judith Ann Machunas, 65, of Cloverdale, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 9:20 p.m. at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center surrounded by her loving family. She fought a courageous battle with cancer by participating in a clinical trial through the James Center at The Ohio State University, Columbus. Judith was born on October 25, 1946 in Defiance, the daughter of Donald M. and Rita Eileen (Kelly) Gustwiller. Her parents are deceased. She married Robert Machunas on September 11, 1982 and he survives in Cloverdale.
Also surviving are 2 sons: Cory W. Plummer of Continental and Jason Machunas of Cloverdale; 3 sisters: Janet (Richard) Tobias of Defiance, Linda (Ted) Feeney of Villa Rica, GA and Joan (Ed) Steffel of Defiance; a brother: Ron (Melissa) Gustwiller of Defiance; a sister-in-law: Vicky Roughton of Defiance; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother: James D. Gustwiller and a nephew: Todd Feeney.
Mrs. Machunas graduated from Defiance High School and the International Business College, Fort Wayne, IN. She was employed for 20 years at Dinner Bell Foods, formerly of Defiance, 13 years as the administrative assistant for the City of Defiance and administrative assistant for TDS Telecom, Continental before retiring in 2011. She enjoyed playing women's softball, bowling and golf. Her family camped and boated on the Maumee River for 28 years. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Continental and it's Rosary Altar Society. She was also a member of Country Acres Ladies Golf League, PHI Beta PSI Sorority Iota Omega Chapter and Continental's Post 541 American Legion Auxiliary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 13, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Continental with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Interment will follow at Monroe Cemetery, Continental. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. There will be an auxiliary service at 8 p.m. on Saturday and an Altar Rosary rosary at 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Putnam County Cancer Assistance Program, St. John's Catholic Church Building Fund, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
