IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Julia Joan
"Jo" (Chapin) Mccomas
September 23, 1934 – November 27, 2025
Julia Joan "Jo" McComas
OTTAWA – Julia Joan "Jo" McComas, 91, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 27, 2025 at Mercy Health Medical Center after spending a wonderful day surrounded by her family.
Jo was born on September 23, 1934, in Burlington, Iowa, to the late Clayton and Bernadine (Olson) Chapin. On September 5, 1953, she married the love of her life, Charles "Chuck" McComas, beginning 60 years of devoted and happy marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life and moved their family to Ottawa in 1969, where Jo became a cherished part of the community.
Jo is survived by three children: Greg (Diana) McComas of Beverly Hills, Michigan, Joni (Dave) Kuhlman of Ottawa, and Julie (Mark) Borer of Glandorf; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren with one on the way; three siblings: Jerry (Judy) Chapin of Monmouth, Illinois, Ronnie Chapin and Kay Emery both of Oquawka, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Bob Chapin and Ralph "Scoop" Chapin.
Jo retired from Philips as a switchboard operator. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cross stitch, crossword puzzles, golf, and gardening. She proudly mowed her own yard until she was 90 years old. Jo loved her family time, convening every week for "Happy Tuesdays" for over a decade. She made sure to send everyone off with a "Love you more" and a wave from her door as they drove away.
Jo lived fully by her favorite motto, "Life is good." She never acted her age, happily joining her granddaughter's bachelorette parties and still finding her way onto the bar at Stinky's, well into her eighties. A loving, constant presence in each of her children's, grandchildren's, and great-grandchildren's lives, she will be greatly missed.
Funeral Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa with Pastor Lynda Lockwood officiating. Burial will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Ottawa. A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to Putnam County Homecare and Hospice.
