Kathryn J. “Kate” Wischmeyer
OTTAWA – Kathryn J. “Kate” Wischmeyer, 98, of Ottawa, passed away peacefully at 3:20 p.m., Monday, June 15, 2026, at The Meadows of Ottawa surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 15, 1928, in Pandora to the late Elmer and Christina (Reddington) Nussbaum. On November 16, 1957, she married Alfred Wischmeyer, who preceded her in death on May 14, 1995.
Survivors include four children: Lora (Jeff) Gray of Spencerville, Brian (Daniel Wernette) Wischmeyer of Lima, Jay (Sheryl) Wischmeyer of Columbus Grove and Ann (Jerry) Biedenharn of Saint Paris, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Suzy Wischmeyer of Ottawa; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Ursula “Butch” Alt of Bluffton; and a sister-in-law, Dollie Nussbaum of Ottoville.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Alan F. Wischmeyer; a grandson, Jon Michael Biedenharn; seven siblings: Richard (Helen) Nussbaum, Rita (Wayne) Agner, Miriam (Ed) Bruen, John Nussbaum, Sr. Dorothy Nussbaum RSM, Charles James (Judy) Nussbaum and Gerald (Carolyn) Nussbaum; and a brother-in-law, James Alt.
Kate worked as Activities Director at Putnam Acres Care Center for 14 years and then Warren Printing in retirement. She attended Mary Manse College in Toledo majoring in music. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa where her life was woven with service. She taught CCD, guided children In the Good Shepherd program, and served as a Eucharistic minister, altar rosary member, grief minister, and played the organ for Mass. Kate was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 60 years, and every Thursday, she volunteered at the Our Daily Bread soup kitchen in Lima.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa and one hour prior to mass Friday at the church. A scripture service will be held at 7:50 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home and a rosary will be held prior to Mass on Friday at the church.
