Kenneth E. Bogard
CEMENT CITY, MI – Kenneth E. Bogard, 80, of Cement City, MI and formerly of Leipsic, died 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family while in hospice care. He was born April 24, 1931 in Leipsic to the late Harry C. and Ethel N. (Norton) Bogard. On September 21, 1957 he married Janette I. Knepper, at the First Lutheran Church, Leipsic. She survives in Cement City, MI.
Also surviving are his children: Sherri Bogard of Norwalk, OH, Debbie Bogard of Sandusky, OH and Scott Bogard of Jerome, MI; 5 grandchildren: Jeremy (Tami) Trenor, Samantha Klein, Alex (Janaki) Warren, Katie Warren and Lindsay Quintero; 8 great-grandchildren: MacKenzie Malloy, Peyton Klein, Lucas Klein, Hailee Smith, Maddison Trenor, Autumn Warren, Kaiden Burris and Gavin Klein; and 2 brothers: Jim (Sally) Bogard and Donald Bogard, both of Leipsic.
Preceding him in death are two brothers: Johnny Bogard and Harry Bogard.
Kenneth graduated from Leipsic High School in 1949 and in 1955 continued his education for 2 years in electronics school at the Radio Institute in Detroit, MI. He enlisted in the Army in 1952 when he was 21 and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and was awarded 4 Bronze Stars and 1 Purple Heart.
He worked several jobs through his early years, including delivering dairy, painting water towers, worked for Libby's and worked with a printing machine at the Free Press.
Kenneth began his 36-year career with the B & O Railroad in 1955 and retired in 1991 as a telephone maintainer. He was a member of the Light for Living Fellowship, Vandercook, MI. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, recently became a member of the VFW in Michigan, enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.
The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Leipsic. Pastor Joe Fralic will officiate. Burial will follow in Sugar Ridge Cemetery, Leipsic with military rites by the Leipsic VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
