Kenneth R. Smith
KALIDA - Kenneth R. Smith, 66, of Kalida, died at 10:40 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2015 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He was born September 21, 1948 in Lima to the late Gilbert and Regina (Heitmeyer) Smith.
He is survived by a brother: John (Ruth) Smith of Kalida; 4 sisters: Mary Ann Schroeder of Columbus Grove, Alice (James) Flaherty of Hershey, PA, Helen (Robert) Unverferth of Kalida, and Diane Smith of Lima; 15 nieces and nephews; 29 great-nieces and nephews; and 4 great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law: John Schroeder.
Kenny attended Brookhill School and worked in the workshop for several years where he participated in the Special Olympics. After moving to the Meadows in 2011, he enjoyed participating in many activities especially bingo, garden club, the Men's Blue Hat Club and traveling on outings. At the Meadows, Kenny was known as the hall monitor who was always open to meeting new people and having new adventures. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida
Memorials may be given to the Special Olympics, Brookhill, or to the activities at The Meadows of Kalida. Kenny's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the care and concern given to him by the staff at Brookhill and The Meadows of Kalida.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
