Larry Stephen Smith

OTTAWA – Larry Stephen Smith, 71 of Ottawa died Saturday December 18, 2021 at his residence.  He was born February 2, 1950 in Bluffton to the late Ralph and Anna Marie (Niese) Smith.  On September 21, 1974 he married Toni Heitmeyer and she survives in Ottawa.

Other survivors include four children: Ryan (Jennifer Knueven) Smith of Ft. Wayne, IN, Aaron (Melanie Ream) Smith of Delaware OH, Cory Smith of Ottawa and Kristin (Martin) Majewski of Westerville; four grandchildren: Issac Smith, Blake Smith, Keaton Majewski and Bexley Majewski.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Smith.

Larry retired in 2012 from General Dynamics.  He was a US Army veteran serving in Vietnam. Larry was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, Ottawa VFW, Ottawa American Legion and Ottawa Eagles.  He loved spending time with his family, golfing, riding his bike in Florida and playing Sudoku.  He was also a huge O-G Titan fan.

Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in the church cemetery.  Military rites by the Ottawa American Legion, VFW and AmVets will follow the mass outside of the church.  Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday and one hour prior to the mass Wednesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, OTTAWA.

Memorial donations may be given to Putnam County CAPS or United Way of Putnam County.
