Obituary

Lavern F. Verhoff

KALIDA – Lavern F. Verhoff, 87, of Kalida, passed away at 10:27 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at his residence. He was born December 9, 1938, in Putnam County to the late Wilfred and Alma (Karhoff) Verhoff. On September 29, 1962, he married Marlene P. Haselman, who preceded him in death on September 25, 2021.

Survivors include five children: Tina Verhoff of Lima, Gary L. (Denise) Verhoff, Lisa A. Verhoff, Mark F. "Vern" Verhoff and Marcia (Kevin) Kaufman, all of Kalida; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren and one on the way.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Lester A. Verhoff.

Lavern was a retired carpenter and veteran of the US Army National Guard. He was a member of Kalida Fish and Game, Kalida Knights of Columbus, and St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida. Lavern loved spending time with his family, especially watching all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren play in their sporting events. He also enjoyed doing puzzles with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 7, 2026, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Phil Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida.
