Lawrence H. Buss
KALIDA – Lawrence H. Buss, 77, of Kalida, passed away at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at the Meadows of Kalida. He was born June 11, 1944, in Cloverdale to the late Joseph and Mildred (Stechschulte) Buss. On May 2, 1970, he married Marie Schmidt. She survives in Kalida.
Larry is also survived by five children: Debra (Billy) Calvelage of Ft. Jennings, Lawrence "Chip" Buss Jr. of Ottawa, Annette (Tim) Landwehr, Missy (Jason) Wieging, and Scott Buss, all of Ft. Jennings; fourteen grandchildren: Josh (Elizabeth) Calvelage, Jared Calvelage, Jenna Calvelage, Sheena (Jeffrey) Schwartz, Bryan Recker, Courtney Buss, Mackenzie Landwehr, Justin Landwehr, Kailyn Landwehr, Hailey Young, Collin Young, Zoe Young, Olivia Wieging, and Chloe Wieging; five great-grandchildren; three brothers: Bob (Joyce) Buss, Kenny (Sandy) Buss and Dave (Shirley) Buss, all of Kalida; four sisters: Dorothy (Ron) Kerner of Kalida, Edie (Denny) Carroll of West Chester, Norma (Den) Vorst, and Barb (Duane) Steffan, both of Kalida; a brother-in-law: Sam Decker of Kalida, and a sister-in-law: Jo Buss of Kalida.
He is preceded in death by a grandson, Collin Wieging; a sister, Eileen Decker; and a brother, Roger Buss.
Larry was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida, and its Holy Name Men's Choir. He was also an usher and Eucharistic Minister. Larry had served in the Army National Guard. He had taken pilot training in Tulsa, OK. Larry was the retired owner of Buss Excavating, he also retired from BF Goodrich, Woodburn, IN. Larry was a member of the Kalida Lions Club, Kalida K of C, and Ottawa Eagles. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, farming (when he was younger) and playing cards. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2022, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Father Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by Ft. Jennings American Legion. A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday with a K of C Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township, and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church.
