Lawrence Gerten

LEIPSIC – Lawrence Gerten, 86, of Leipsic died at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at his residence. He was born April 2, 1931 in Leipsic to the late Lawrence and Veronica (Goedde) Gerten. On May 5, 1956 he married Thelma Ruhe and she survives in Leipsic.

Also surviving are seven children, Steve (Amy) Gerten of Leipsic, Ken (Sharon) Gerten of Leipsic, Karen (Tim) Schroeder of Kalida, Bob (Jackie) Gerten of Leipsic, Ann (Brian) Beining of Ottoville, Roger (Dawn) Gerten of Ottawa, and Mary Jo (Keith) Eiden of Ottawa; twenty-two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Duling and Mary Ann Hanneman both of Glandorf. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Harold, and Edgar Gerten; and two sisters, Odelia Siefker and Lucille Karhoff.

Lawrence was a farmer and the Gerten Homestead is a Century Farm. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic. Lawrence was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed playing cards and bingo. He loved going to his children and grandchildren's activities. During his retirement years he painted Blessed Virgin Mary statues.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic with Fr. William Pifher officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic and one hour prior to the mass on Monday at the church.  A Rosary Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
