Leo A. Wurst

OTTOVILLE – Leo A. Wurst, 90 of Ottoville died surrounded by his loving family at 12:26 a.m. on Friday, December 18, 2020 at his residence. He was born December 12, 1930 in Ottoville to the late Frank H. and Hilda (Scharf) Wurst. On July 23, 1955 he married Phyllis Blankemeyer who survives in Ottoville.

Also surviving are three children, Gary (Kathy Holden) Wurst of Ottoville, Michael Wurst of Lakeview, and Sandra Friedrich of Ottoville; five grandchildren, Aaron (Lindsay) Wurst, Sara (Galen) Vasquez, Kayla (Michael) Leonard, Alex (Karrisa) Friedrich, and Eric Friedrich; eight great-grandchildren, Emmeline Wurst, Eleanor Wurst, Leo Vasquez, Emanuel Vasquez, Bentley Wannemacher, Ayden Friedrich, Sophie Mayes and Xavier Friedrich.;  two brothers, Larry Wurst of West Carrollton and Rodney (Lois) Wurst of McCormack, SC; and sisters-in-law, Brenda Eversole Wurst of Van Wert, Marilyn Hedrick of Brookville, IN and Janis (George) Rafferty of Celina. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Arthur Wurst; three sisters-in-law, Gloria Wurst, Deloris Wurst and Patrica Wurst; and a brother-in-law, Roger Hedrick.

Leo was the owner of  Millie's Café in Ottoville, retiring after 31 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville and a US Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a life member and past commander, from 1995-1996, of the Ottoville VFW; member of Fort Jennings American Legion; life member of AMVETS; member of Delphos Eagles; and Lakeview Moose. Leo was a member of Ottoville Volunteer Fire Department from 1955 to 1996. He was a 12 gallon blood donor.

A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with Fr. John Stites officiating. It will be live streamed on Immaculate Conception's facebook page. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville with military rites by the Ottoville VFW, Ft. Jennings American Legion and AMVETS. Following the COVID 19 regulations, visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township. Masks are required at the funeral home and at church. Memorials may be made to Putnam County Hospice or to a charity of the donor's choice.
