Leona M. Steffen
MILLER CITY - Leona M. Steffen, 95, of Miller City, died, 11:55 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at The Meadows at Putnam Acres, Ottawa.  She was born March 14, 1919, in New Bavaria to the late Theodore and Josephine (Okuley) Eiden.  On April 23, 1941, she married, Norbert C. Steffen.  He died October 26, 2011.
Survivors include five children: Jeanette (Charles) Meyer of Ottawa, John (Elaine) Steffen of Findlay, James (Joyce) Steffen of Miller City, Teresa (Wayne) Hermiller of Ottawa and Tom (Christine) Steffen of Livonia, MI; 20 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; and a sister, Lavina Steffen of Miller City.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Gilbert Eiden and Bernard Eiden; and three sisters: Alfreda Westrick, Viola Brown and Eveline Barker.
Leona was a homemaker and a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City and its Altar Rosary Society.  She enjoyed volunteering at Putnam Acres Care Center and the Putnam County Red Cross and was a former member of the Miller City Fire ladies Auxiliary.   She was an accomplished seamstress, baker and dancer.  In 2011, Leona and her husband were awarded the Outstanding Senior Citizen's Award.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City with Fr. Stephen Schroeder officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a scripture service will begin at 2:00 p.m. and a rosary at 7:00 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Holy Family Catholic Radio or to Putnam County Hospice.
