Liane Janis Viars

CONTINENTAL – Liane Janis Viars, 76, of Continental, passed away peacefully at 4:15 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 21, 1950, in Traverse City, MI to the late Loren and Janis (Ehl) Armstrong. Liane met the love of her life, Nelson Viars, in Flint, MI, and the two were married on July 8, 1971.

Liane dedicated her early years to caring for her family, remaining at home until her youngest child was in school. She then joined her husband in the family business, Big Red Drainage Tile Company. Later she worked in the business offices at Defiance Hospital and Paulding County Hospital, where she became known as the go-to person for all things related to finances and insurance. Her career continued in business and compliance roles at Vancrest Nursing Home and Okuley’s Pharmacy, where her professionalism and dedication were deeply valued.

Family was always at the heart of Liane’s life. She treasured time spent with her grandchildren, especially their special “TGIF nights” and adored her great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy. In her spare time, Liane loved crocheting, and her family and friends will forever cherish the beautiful handmade items she created for them.

Liane is survived by her devoted husband, Nelson; her children: Scott (Heidi) Viars, Lynn (Daniel) Williams and Lori (Robert) Ward; her grandchildren: Corey (Anastasia) Viars, Jesse (Amelia) Viars, Lukas (Jessica) Viars, Trace (Morgan) Williams, Loren (Nikki) Williams, Regan (Isaac) Young and Hayden (Kaytlin) Ward; and her great-grandchildren: Lee Blank, Blaiklee Williams, Waylon Young, Rhett Young, Estella Young and the future Roman Ward. She also leaves behind her sister, Erica King; brother, Kerry (Mary) Armstrong; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters: Jocelyn Armstrong and Sonia Brumley; and her niece, Kelli Brumley.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Putnam County Hospice (especially Tina Fitzwater) for their compassionate care and support.

A celebration of Liane’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental.
