Louise “Beezie” Fickel

VAUGHNSVILLE - Louise “Beezie” Fickel, 95, of Columbus Grove left our world at 9:30 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2026 at the Meadows of Ottawa. She was born June 23, 1931 north of Kalida to the late Charles Levi and Elizabeth “Lizzy” (Buckmaster) Smith. On June 11, 1955, she married Roscoe Fickel. They were married 65 years until his passing on December 31, 2020.

Beezie is survived by 2 children: Gary (Sue) Fickel of Rimer and Sandy (Steve) Kaple of North Fort Myers, FL; 2 grandchildren: Amy (Dennis) Youngpeter and Beth (Tom) Casper; a 2 great-grandchildren: Rory Youngpeter and Bryn Casper.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by 6 siblings: Charlotte (Cecil) Kirkendall, Richard Smith, Helen (Jim) Bonnell, Irene (Herb) Kistler, Ellen Carder and Zella Mae Smith.

Beezie and Roscoe lived the majority of their lives in Vaughnsville, raising their two children. Beezie was a homemaker. She loved being a mom, grandma and great-grandma. When her children got older, she worked part time at the Grove Market, Columbus Grove. Prior to her marriage, she fondly remembered working at the Clerk of Court in Ottawa and the friends she made there. One of her dear friends, Peg Place, still called her to talk about the good old days and NBA basketball, which she followed the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff of the Meadows of Ottawa and Putnam County HomeCare and Hospice.

The family will hold a private graveside service at a later date in Ottawa River Cemetery, Rimer. Memorial contributions may be given to Putnam County HomeCare and Hospice or the charity of the donor’s choice. The arrangements are under the direction of HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
