Louise "Gus" Fickel

CONTINENTAL – Louise "Gus" Fickel, 76, of Continental, passed away at 9:44 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at her residence. She was born April 13, 1947, in Cleveland to the late Arthur and Louise (Dunker) Gustavsen. In June of 1975, she married Kenneth C. Fickel, who preceded her in death on July 4, 1999.

Louise is survived by two daughters: Karen (Jamie) Boyce of Cecil and Kelly (Larry) Mercer of Travelers Rest, SC; three sons: Alan Fickel of Cecil, Chuck (Patricia) Mercer of Cloverdale and Matt (Leann) Fickel of Paulding; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Art Gustavsen.

She is also preceded in death by a sister, Maggie Gustavsen.

Louise retired from General Motors, Defiance in 2002, where she was a member of the UAW Local 211. She was also a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Continental and the Continental American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 541.  Louise loved going on trips with her friends and cheering on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their sporting events. She was also a supporter of the Continental Pirates and Patrick Henry Patriots.  Louise was a best friend to many.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 - 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the Continental American Legion.
