Margaret Koester

OTTOVILLE – Margaret Koester, 85, of Ottoville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 4:23 a.m. at Vancrest of Delphos surrounded by her loving family from complications of Covid 19.  She was born July 12, 1938, on the family farm to the late Alphonse and Agnes (Blum) Utrup.  On June 1, 1957, she married Ralph A. Koester, he preceded her in death on July 17, 1995.

Margaret is survived by five children:  Ralph (JoAnn) Koester of Ottoville, LaDonna "Donna" (Tony) Fischer of Columbus, IN., Karen (Ron) Bickle of Van Wert, Diane (Bob) Ditto of Batavia, and Jeanne (Steve) Miller of Landeck; twelve grandchildren:  Jennifer Koester, Ryan (Courtney) Koester, Aaron (Miranda) Fischer, Melissa (Joel) Philippsen, Scott (Rachel) Fischer, Justin (Adrianna) Bickle, Brice (Kelsey) Bickle, Emily (Jacob) Chavarria, Michelle (Tim) Clementz, Brad (Jennifer) Ditto, Brian (Marcy) Miller, and Jessica (Tom) Beaupre; seventeen great-grandchildren; siblings: Barb (Bill) Kroeger, Minnie Moenter both of Delphos, James (Carol) Utrup of Wilmington, Bernard "Sam" (Rita) Utrup, Agnes Klaus, both of Delphos, Beatrice Dundas of Ottoville, John (Paula) Utrup of Columbus Grove, Mary (Tom) Say of Lima, and Helen Friemoth of South Carolina.

She is preceded in death by two infant daughters, Kathleen, and Nellie; an infant son, Jody; siblings, Cecelia Friemoth, Annie Landwehr, Dolores Turnwald, Mel Siefer, Joseph Utrup, and Gertrude Utrup.

Margaret retired from TMD, Delphos, and started her true calling in life, caring for the elderly in their homes.  She was an avid animal lover, but her greatest joy was to have her grandchildren spend the night where they would make homemade doughnuts and play silly games.  Margaret was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, and their altar rosary society.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 25, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with Very Reverend George Mahas officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township with a scripture service at 1:45 p.m.
