Maria B. Tapia

OTTAWA – Maria B. Tapia, 85, of Ottawa, was called home by God at 11:40 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima surrounding by her children. She was born May 20, 1939, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico to the late Miguel and Rosa (Vasquez) Gomez. On February 28, 1957, she married Jesus C. "Jesse" Tapia. He preceded her in death on November 8, 2009.

Survivors include five children: Darlene (James) Tesnow, Alicia (Steve) Tapia Fout, both of Findlay, Jesus Tapia, Jr. of Dayton, Jesse Tapia of Arlington and Lisa-Belle (Shane) Tapia Haynes of Findlay; 25 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Erineo Gomez and Pieda Gomez.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Lydia Tapia and Linda Claybaugh; and two siblings: Eluterio Gomez and Dimas Gomez.

Maria retired from Philips, Ottawa. She loved nurturing her plants and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will begin 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 14, 2024 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. A rosary service will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
