Obituary

Maria L. Macias

LEIPSIC – Maria L. Macias, 88, of Leipsic, passed away at 9:29 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, at her residence. She was born May 28, 1937, in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. She was the daughter of the late Cruz and Amparo (Rosillo) Huijon. On October 16, 1956, she married Ben R. Macias. They made their home in Leipsic, Ohio. Ben preceded her in death on February 12, 1994.

Maria is survived by four children: Diana (Clair) Winebar of Bluffton, Norma (Gene) Gable of Holland, Linda (Jeff) Nartker of Kalida, Sylvia (Charles) Morman of Leipsic; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; siblings: Lilia Thomas and Cristina Treviño, both of Edinburg, TX; and Marisol Huijon-Rosillo of Carson City, NV.

She is preceded in death by a son, Daniel Macias; grandson, David Ryan Stateler; great-grandson, Israel Rey-David Bullock; sisters, Araceli Guevara, Amparo Briseño, Raquel Alaniuz; and a brother, Cruz Huijon, Jr.

Maria retired from Philips in Ottawa. She enjoyed gardening, art and traveling. Maria loved music, especially mariachi. Maria worked hard her entire life and built a legacy rooted in sacrifice, resilience and love.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Leipsic with Fr. Steve Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Leipsic. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic and again on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Parish Life Center.
