KALIDA – Marie E. Buss, 79 of Kalida died 4:53 a.m., Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. She was born February 21, 1947, in Leipsic to the late Herman and Marcella “Sally” (Brinkman) Schmidt. On May 2, 1970, she married Lawrence “Larry” Buss Sr. He died May 19, 2022.
Survivors include five children: Debra “Deb” (Billy) Calvelage, Lawrence “Chip” Buss Jr., Annette Landwehr, Melissa “Missy” (Jason) Wieging and Scott Buss all of Ft. Jennings; fourteen grandchildren: Josh (Elizabeth) Calvelage, Jared Calvelage, Jenna Calvelage, Sheena Schwartz, Bryan Recker, Courtney Buss, Mackenzie Landwehr, Justin Landwehr, Kailyn Landwehr, Hailey (Brendon) Schnipke, Collin (Mykenah Jackson) Young, Zoe Young, Olivia (Griffin) Recker, and Chloe Wieging; five great-grandchildren and one on the way; and a sister, Carol Berger of Leipsic.
She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Tim Landwehr; grandson, Collin Wieging; and brother-in-law, Bill Berger.
Marie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the bookkeeper/secretary for Buss Excavating. Her favorite profession was being a homemaker. She was happiest cooking, cleaning, doing dishes, laundry, gardening and taking care of her family and home. She also thoroughly enjoyed baking, sewing and reading. She was the primary cake baker and decorator for her family and many more in her extended family. She made the best pies, cupcakes and cookies which she shared with so many. She was a wonderful seamstress and loved cross stitch. She was a graduate of Leipsic High School and OSU Beauty Academy. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida, and its Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She was a Cub Scouts den leader.
Funeral mass will begin at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Phil Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
