Obituary

Marilynn Farrar

FAIRPORT, NEW YORK - Marilynn Farrar, or as she preferred, Lynn, was born on April 23, 1940 and left us peacefully on September 20, 2024, at the age of 84, after her battle with Dementia.

Lynn grew up in Syracuse, NY, as the youngest daughter of Gabriel (Gob) and Bertha Nagy. She attended Oswego University to study Education. It is there that she met her husband, Neil Farrar, when he was on active duty for the Coast Guard and stationed at the Oswego Lighthouse. Lynn went on to get her Master's degree at Syracuse University and eventually married Neil in 1964. They moved to Fairport, NY and built a house and a family together from the foundation up. Lynn taught math to middle schoolers, with her last assignment being in the Pittsford school district.

Lynn loved life and she loved having a good time with family and friends. Together, she and Neil enjoyed attending Syracuse football games ("Go Orange!")... nights out at the theater… paddle boating on Cross Lake… spending pool and beach time in Sarasota, Florida… wine tasting in the Fingerlakes… and traveling to near and far locations. Lynn was an amazing baker who was always asked to bring the dessert to parties. When there wasn't a homemade treat in her hand, you could find Lynn eating ANYTHING chocolate (with the exception of Raspberry or Coconut creams).

Most of all, Lynn loved playing games. During the summers at the Cross Lake, she would always be rallying the troops to play Bocce, Corn Hole and Jarts. In the evening, or during bad weather, Lynn would gather family members to play cards (Pitch), Rummikub or Yahtzee. Lynn was a fierce competitor and she hated to lose! (Especially at Yahtzee… her absolute favorite game.) Not a day passed during the Summer when she didn't rattle those dice. She is probably still shaking those dice, and convincing others to play with her.

Lynn – no matter her health – never lost those important parts of herself. She would always find fun in games, and laughter in the little things. When the weather was nice, you could count on Lynn to be sitting in the sun and working on her tan. She enjoyed being a loving wife, mother and grandmother and taking care of others. This is how she will always be remembered.

Lynn is survived by her loving husband, Neil W. Farrar, their daughters and son-in-laws: Sue and Adam Choi and Sarah and Ben La France, and her five grandkids: Allison, Anna, Becca, Liza and Grey. Lynn was predeceased by her father Gabriel "Gob" Nagy, mother Bertha (Carlson) Nagy, and sister Robin (Nagy) Batley.

A Memorial Service for Lynn will be held at her church, the Church of the Incarnation, at a later date. We will notify all friends and family with the details.

Arrangements are under the direction of LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
