Martha A. Turnwald

KALIDA - Martha A. Turnwald, 82 of Kalida died 4:32 a.m., Saturday, May 8, 2021 at The Meadows of Kalida.  She was born July 20, 1938 in Leipsic to the late Ed and Frances (Schroeder) Niese.  On August 3, 1957 she married Donald Turnwald and he survives in Kalida.

Other survivors include eight children: Sandy (Mike) Westrick of Ottawa, Denny (Blyth) Turnwald of Kalida, Cindy (Bill) Koch of Columbus Grove, Ed (Theresa) Turnwald of Beaverdam, Steve Turnwald of Cloverdale, Karen (Jeff) Schroeder of Kalida, Dan (Kathy) Turnwald of Ottawa and Terry (Jodi) Turnwald of Cloverdale; 26 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way; a brother, Frank (Janice) Niese of Ottawa; a sister, Pat (Karl) Fuerst; and two sisters-in-law: Helen Niese and JoAnn Niese both of Leipsic.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Carl and Marietta Niese, Victor and Monica Niese, Eugene Niese and Bill Niese; and a sister, Marilyn and Harold Roebke.

Martha was a proud farmer's wife, working beside her husband for 60+ years in the fields.  She was a hardworking housewife who loved cooking, baking, canning, polka dancing and spending time with her family and traveling and butchering with Don and friends.  She was a Leipsic High School graduate, and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida and its Catholic Ladies of Columbia and Altar Rosary Society.  Martha was also socially active in the Ottawa VFW, Ottawa American Legion and Ottawa Eagles.

Funeral mass will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery, In keeping with social distancing guidelines; visitation will be from 2-8 p.m., Monday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Twp.  C L of C and Rosary Altar service will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Masks are required.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Michael's Church, American Stroke Association or Alzheimer's.
