Mary E. (Burnett) LaPoint
Pemberville - Mary Evelyn LaPoint, 91, of Pemberville formerly of Ottawa, passed away 7:56 p.m., July 30, 2015 at Otterbein Portage Valley in Pemberville, which had been her home for the past 12+ years. She had been in failing health for a number of years. She was born on July 10, 1924 in Spencerville to the late Ray and Elzora (Plikerd) Burnett, into a family that grew to include 10 additional children. She married Richard Paul LaPoint, who preceded her in death in 2003.
Mary is survived by a son: Paul Allen LaPoint of Toledo; two grandchildren: Lauren LaPoint Hartung of Omaha, Neb. and Ian LaPoint of London, UK; one great-grandchild: Harrison Hartung of Omaha, and two brothers: William and Milton. She is preceded in death by 4 brothers: Marion, Evertt, Howard and Dick and 4 sisters: Ilo, Alta, Carolyn and Dorthy.
Mary and Richard were married for over 50 years and for 38 of those years, she was an equal working partner with "Dick" in the LaPoint Funeral Home and Ambulance Service. On top of this, she made time to follow the passions in her life; vegetable and flower gardening, singing in multiple choirs of the Ottawa Presbyterian and Trinity United Methodist churches. Mary was also active in the Eastern Star, Business & Professional Women's Club and loved to play golf, make hats and jewelry, paint in oils and draw with paste chalks and others craft and projects. Mary LaPoint was a smart woman, a great wife and one hell of a mother!
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 3, 2015 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa, with Pastor Lynda Lockwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Harman Cemetery, Gilboa. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon till time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
