Mary J. Shafer

CONTINENTAL – Mary J. Shafer, 101, formerly of Continental, passed away at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Bayview Center, Eustis, FL.  She was born on June 11, 1921, in Dupont to the late Elmer R. and Augusta L. (Spencer) Prowant.  On June 22, 1946, she married Rex M. Shafer, he preceded her in death on March 4, 2010.

Mary is survived by three children:  Miriam (Larry) Elkins of Continental, Melvin (Bobbi) Shafer of Clermont, FL., and Calvin L. (Joanne) Shafer of Painsville; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and twelve great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by three brothers: Galen, Paul, and Melvin Prowant; and two sisters: Esther Snell and Lois Price.

Mary retired from Campbell Soup Company, Napoleon.

There will be a funeral service 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2022 at the HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Pastor Charles Schmunk officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Defiance.  Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
