OTTAWA – Mary F. Blankemeier, 88, of Ottawa passed away at 7:45 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 at The Meadows of Ottawa. She was born June 11, 1928 in Ottawa, to the late Fred and Lauretta (Geise) Recker. On November 27, 1952 she married Arthur A. Blankemeier. He died March 26, 2015.
Surviving are 7 children: Jan (Jeff) Jones of Ottawa, DiAnne (Marvin) Scott of Mt. Juliet, TN, Mark (Barb) Blankemeier of Grand Rapids, MI, Elaine (Jim) Van Paepeghem of Columbus, Dan (Mary Rose) Blankemeier of Carmel, IN, Nicholas Blankemeier of Hilliard, and Mary Jean (Alan) Christian of Medina; a son-in-law: Dominic (Anne) Luppino of Dublin; 18 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren 2 sisters: Edna Katunarich of Long Beach, CA and Marciel (George) Schroeder of Glandorf; 2 brothers: John (Kathy) Recker of Lima and James (Berna) Recker of Littleton, CO; a sister-in-law, Pat Recker of Delphos; and a brother-in-law, Earl Youngpeter of Delphos.
Mary was also preceded in death by a daughter: Lois Luppino; a grandson: Benjamin Blankemeier; 2 sisters: Lucille (Wilbur) Wallenhorst and Patricia Youngpeter; and 4 brothers: Art (Mae) Recker, Leonard Recker, Harold Recker and Othmar Recker.
Mary retired as bus driver for Leipsic Local Schools, had been a surgical nurse and homemaker. She was a 1946 graduate of Fort Jennings High School and a 1949 graduate of St. Rita's School of nursing. Mary was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa where she was a Minister of Praise and Altar Rosary Society member. She was also a member of the Leipsic Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Ottawa American Legion Auxiliary and Ottawa VFW Auxiliary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Matt Jozefiak officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Leipsic. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where there will be a family rosary at 7:30 p.m.
