Mary C. Gasser-Sergeant
Fort Jennings – Mary C. Gasser-Sergeant, 89, of Ft. Jennings, died 9:23 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2016, at The Meadows of Kalida. She was born April 16, 1926 in Ft. Jennings to the late John H. and Rose (Kaverman) Schimmoeller. On November 28, 1946 she married Art Gasser who died August 17, 1966. In April, 1970, she married Ben E. Sergeant who died October 23,1999.
Mary is survived by seven children: Tim (Linda) Gasser of Ft. Jennings, Connie (Gary) Krouse of Kalida, Terry (Joyce) Gasser, Greg (LuAnn) Gasser, Joyce (Alan) Stechschulte, Jane (Richard) Metzger, Jeanne (Tom) Bruskotter, all of Ft. Jennings; 22 grandchildren: Michele (Rod ) Ricker, Jennifer (Jay) Neidert, Scott (Hilary)Gasser, Jeff (Trista) Krouse, Mike (Karen) Krouse, Angie (Mark) Garcia, Eric (Shelly) Gasser, Emily (Adnan) Chhartriwalla, Adam (Amee) Gasser, Audrey (Brad) Utrup, Mike (Jenn) Gasser, Lacey (Steve) Webb, Ryan (Kristen) Stechschulte, Renee (Nate) Klaus, Ross Stechschulte, Melissa (Kevin) Grothause, Jessi (Mike) Grime, Christina Metzger, Erica (Tyler) Louth, Joel (Monica) Bruskotter, Brad Bruskotter, Lori Bruskotter; 45 great-grandchildren and one on the way; six siblings: Paul (JoAnn) Schimmoeller, Annette (John) Hilvers, Ethel Recker, Marge (Ken) Von Sossan, Sister Jane Schimmoeller, Cathy (Roger) Schimmoeller. She was preceded in death by great-grandchildren: Nathan and Mallory Gasser; four siblings: Ernie Schimmoeller, Helen Schimmoeller, Roger Schimmoeller, and Click Schimmoeller.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ft. Jennings, and was a lifetime member of the church's Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She was a charter member of the Ft. Jennings Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ft. Jennings with Fr. Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Twp, and one hour prior to mass at the church on Tuesday.
There will be a prayer service at 1:45 p.m. by the CL of C and a Wake Service at 7:45 p.m. by Sister Jane Schimmoeller on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Putnam County Home Health and Hospice or to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
