GLANDORF - Mary Ann Stoepfel, 95, of Glandorf died at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016 at The Meadows of Kalida. She was born July 1, 1920 in Glandorf to the late Charles and Philomena (Verhoff) Stechschulte. On February 22, 1941 she married Lawrence Stoepfel who died August 13, 2001.
She is survived by three children: Jane (Dennis) Gerdeman, Mark (Elaine) Stoepfel, and Ruth (Mark) Brinkman all of Glandorf; eleven grandchildren: Julie Guilbert, Sheryl Papier, Andrew Gerdeman, Kim Kahle, Marna Diemer, Brad Stoepfel, Kara Rump, Erin Recker, Bryce Stoepfel, Gayle Duling, Sara Imm; twenty-four great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Guilbert, Emily Guilbert, Gretchen Papier, John "Chip" Papier, Sam Gerdeman, Claire Gerdeman, James Gerdeman, Jeron Kahle, Jacob Kahle, Klaire Diemer, Carly Stoepfel, Lucas Stoepfel, Logan Stoepfel, Kirsten Rump, Nathan Rump, Maggie Rump, Trevor Rump, Matthew Recker, Mitchel Recker, Drew Recker, Madison Duling, Ben Duling, Katie Duling, and Aubrey Imm; one great-great grandchild: Liam Kahle and two sisters-in-law: Agnes Sager of Glandorf and Cleora (Robert) Winkle of Kalida. She was also preceded in death by three sisters: Theresa Buddelmeyer, Margret Wanamaker, and Lenora Ricker, and two brothers: Leonard Stechschulte and Edwin Stechschulte.
Mary Ann was a cook for Ottawa Elementary School for 24 years and was a co/owner of Stoepfel Well Drilling. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf and its Rosary Altar Society. Mary Ann's grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved her pumpkin cookies. Her favorite saying was " Play it by ear."
Mary Ann's family would like to acknowledge the personal and loving care provided by the staff at The Meadows of Kalida. In addition, the family would like to thank the nurses and staff at St. Rita's Medical Center, particularly Dr. Kifetew. Also, the family is grateful to the staff of Putnam County Hospice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Fr. Tony Fortman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where there will be Parish Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. John's Capital Campaign Fund or to the Putnam County Hospice.
