Obituary

Michael Lynn Schondel, Sr.

CLOVERDALE - Michael Lynn Schondel, Sr., born February 19th, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio passed away on July 14th, 2026, at the age of 81. He was the son of the late Kenneth Edward, Sr. and Eva Gladys (Valentine) Schondel. On March 26th, 1977, Michael married Cheryl (Werynski) Schondel. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and an unwavering love for one another.

Michael was a jack of all trades and the kind of man who could build, repair, create, or figure out just about anything. By profession, he was a welder and retired from General Dynamics after many years of dedicated service. He took pride in working with his hands and believed anything worth doing was worth doing well.

He was preceded in death by his son, Sean Schondel who passed away in 1991.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; his brother, Kenneth Schondel Jr. of Oklahoma; his son, Michael Schonde Jr of Michigan; Amanda (Tony) Hermiller of Ottawa; and Lisa (Dean) Maag of Cloverdale; his 7 grandchildren: Austin (Mckayla) Schondel, Robert Schondel, Elizabeth Schondel, Sean Maag, Henry Maag, Drew Hermiller, and Bryce Hermiller; and his faithful dog, Brick.

Michael spent his life hunting, fishing, and sharing his love, knowledge, and deep respect for the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. He taught them how to read the water, watch the wind, care for the land, respect the animals they hunted, and understand that the success of a hunt was never measured by what was brought home, but by the time spent together and a deep respect for the outdoors.

In keeping with Michael's wishes, no funeral or formal services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kalida Fish and Game Club, a place that reflected Michael's lifelong love of the outdoors and the traditions he was so proud to share with others.
