Monica A. Miller

OTTOVILLE – Monica A. (Rode) Koester Miller, 91, of Ottoville passed away at 10:53 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Mercy Health Putnam Medical Center, Glandorf.  She was born August 29, 1932, in Landeck to the late Arthur and Agnes (Gengler) Rode.  On June 6, 1953, she married Hilarius "Red" Koester, he preceded her in death on February 23, 1975.  On October 27, 1978, she married Donald Miller, and he preceded her in death on April 1, 2018.

Monica is survived by a daughter: Elaine (Jeff) Schimmoeller of Ottoville; seven sons:  Steve (Mary Kay Schimmoeller) Koester, Dave (Mary Osting) Koester, Joe (Tina Rellinger) Koester, Dean (Melanie Halsey) Koester, Chuck (Jodi Landin) Koester, Paul Koester, all of Ottoville, and Dale (Lisa Lewis) Koester of Sunbury; a stepdaughter: Lisa (Kevin) Lindeman, of Ottoville; five stepsons: Terry (Shirley Rieger) Miller and Lee Miller of Ottoville, Ron Miller of Powell, Randy Miller of Ottawa, and Keith (Melissa Brenek) Miller of St. Marys; and one stepson-in-law: Troy Landin of Lima; twenty-five grandchildren; fifty-four great-grandchildren and four on the way; siblings: Art Rode, Jr. of Landeck, Dorothy Grothause of Delphos, Sister Antonia Rode of Tiffin, Ron (Mary Lou) Rode of Delphos; a brother-in-law: Richard (Betty) Miller of Ottoville and two sisters-in-law: Betty Hermiller of Columbus Grove, Babe Miller of Ottoville, and Rosemary (Elmer) Markward.

She is preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Carla (Miller) Landin; a stepdaughter-in-law, Roxy (Ekrote) Miller; and a grandson, Cory Schimmoeller.

Also preceding her in death are siblings, Norma (John) Trentman and Jerome Rode; a sister-in-law, Pat Rode; as well as in-laws, Wilma (Amos) Miller, Maggie (Ernie) Schimmoeller, Erma Wehri Morman, Eugene Miller, Berta Schimmoeller Cramer, Roger Schimmoeller, Lorn Cramer, Frank Hermiller, Henry Wehri, Norbert Morman, Nub Grothause, Richard (Alvera) Koester, Ambrose (Mary Catherine) Koester, Celestine (Loretta) Koester, Alberta (Cyril) Weber, and Lucinda (Norbert) Langhals.

Monica loved doing jigsaw puzzles and had done well over a hundred, with many of them hanging throughout the house.  She was always up for a game of Scrabble with family and friends.  Monica had a devotion to Mary and enjoyed praying the rosary, especially on a long car ride.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, with the Very Reverend George Mahas officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  A visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township with a rosary service beginning at 1:30 p.m.
