Obituary

Neil Farrar

FAIRPORT, NY - Neil Farrar was born on November 21, 1938, and left us peacefully on October 9, 2024, at the age of 85, after battling health issues.  Neil grew up in Fairmount, NY, as the only child of Louis and Frances Farrar.

He attended Syracuse University and studied Business for two years before getting called into active duty for the Coast Guard. While in the Coast Guard, Neil served on search and rescue missions on the Great Lakes, and was stationed at the West Pierhead Lighthouse in Oswego, NY. It was during his time at the Lighthouse that he reconnected with his future wife, Lynn Nagy, who was studying at Oswego University. After his active duty was over, Neil returned to Syracuse University to finish his business degree. After graduating, Neil took a job with Kodak in Rochester, NY.  In 1964, after a June wedding, Lynn moved to Fairport, NY where she and Neil built a house and a family together. Neil worked at Kodak for more than 30 years and throughout his career he held various management positions. He worked for the Credit, Equipment, Paper, and Parts Services (his favorite) departments, to name a few. After retiring from Kodak in 1994, Neil kept himself busy by becoming a Board Member for ESL… delivering Meals on Wheels… and being the best "armchair financial advisor" possible for friends and family. He is probably still giving financial advice to anyone who will listen!

Neil cherished family, church, and free time. He also loved attending the theater… traveling… spending time in Sarasota, Florida and Cross Lake, NY…wine tasting in the Finger Lakes… driving his corvette… and sharing a glass of good bourbon or whiskey. Neil was also a huge fan of Syracuse sports and loved going to football games in the Dome. He was also a die-hard Buffalo

Bills fan and never stopped hoping for them to win a Super Bowl Championship. Maybe it will happen this year?!

Throughout all his health issues of the past year, Neil never lost sight of what was important to him… being there for his friends and family. He would always have time for phone calls with his daughters and grandkids, volunteering at church, and mentoring friends and family. To quote one of Neil's favorite songs by Frank Sinatra, "I did it my way"; and that he did. Neil took life by the horns and rode it into the sunset. The memories he leaves behind will be cherished by his family and friends forever.

Neil is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Sue and Adam Choi and Sarah and Ben La France, and his five grandkids: Allison, Anna, Becca, Liza and Grey. Neil was predeceased by his wife Lynn Farrar, his father Louis Farrar, and mother Francis Palmer.

Local visitation for both Neil and Lynn will be from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, October 27, 2024 at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. A joint memorial service will be held in New York at a later date. We will notify all friends and family with the details.
