Nelverta Rozena Skiver

CONTINENTAL – Nelverta Rozena Skiver, 87, of Continental, passed away at 6:03 p.m., Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Defiance Inpatient Hospice. She was born December 23, 1937, in Defiance County to the late Olin and Leah (Trietch) Mansfield.  On August 18, 1956, she married James Norva Skiver, who preceded her in death on December 16, 2009.

She is survived by 5 children: Angel C. (John) Brink of Continental, Loretta K. (Curt) Sams of Glasgow, KY, Cynthia R. (Mark) Prowant-Sabo of Continental, David W. (Shelley) Skiver of Petersburg, MI and Tina N. (Scot) Schieferstein of New Carlisle; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren;  and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by 2 daughters: Joann and Joanna Skiver; and 3 siblings: Donelda (Kenneth) Beck, Orwin (Norma Jean) Mansfield and Norma (William "Bill") Moore.

At a young age, Nelverta trusted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. The Bible guided her faith and how she lived her life. Nelverta looked forward to eternal life in heaven because of the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross and his resurrection from the dead.

Nelverta formerly worked at Rockhold's Market as a meat wrapper, Brown's Bakery and North Mount Zion Church as the church secretary and Deaconess. She was a member of North Mount Zion Church and Ladies Aid. Nelverta participated in singing, crocheting, gardening and ministering at rest homes. She also loved traveling and was able to visit all 50 states.

Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2025, at North Mount Zion Church, Continental with Jules M. Schieferstein officiating. Burial will follow at North Mount Zion Cemetery, Continental. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental and 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday prior to the service at the church.
