Nicholas V. Schroeder
OTTAWA – Nicholas V. Schroeder, 72, of Ottawa passed away at 12:41 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at St. Rita’s Ambulatory Care Center in Glandorf. He was born October 1, 1953, in Lima to the late Robert A. and Alice T. (Verhoff) Schroeder, the fifth of eight children. He married Sharon Borger at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys on September 4, 1988. He and Sharon were married for thirty-eight years, and she survives him in Ottawa.
Other survivors include his daughter, Dr. Allison (Ken) Sullivan of Cleveland; two grandchildren: Casey and Dillon Sullivan; siblings: Mary Ann (Pat) Imm of Deshler, Jim (Ginny) Schroeder, Charles (Rose) Schroeder, Jerome (Diane) Schroeder, Mark (Tammy) Schroeder, Lois (Keith) Lammers all of Glandorf and Beth (Pete) Bensen of Downers Grove, IL; mother-in-law, Beatrice Borger of St. Mary’s; in-laws: Linda Green of Wapakoneta, Deb (Paul) Schumann of Minster and Chris (Lisa) Borger of St. Mary’s; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Alice Schroeder, father-in-law, Louis Borger, and a nephew, Jacob Schroeder.
Nick was a semi-retired CPA with Schroeder & Co. CPAs of Ottawa, and worked over fifty tax seasons. A highly respected professional, Nick was extremely generous with his time and expertise throughout the area. He held leadership positions with Ottawa Chamber of Commerce, Precious Blood Society Financial Board, Putnam County Improvement Corporation Board, Ohio Society of CPA’s past president and vice president, Putnam County YMCA, and St. John the Baptist Parish Finance Committee, among others.
Nick was also a proud graduate of Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana, a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa Knights of Columbus, and a loyal Notre Dame Fighting Irish and O-G Titan fan. Known by friends and family for his strong work ethic, he long enjoyed spending time farming with his brothers on the Schroeder family farm.
His greatest joy and devotion was to his faith and his family. He loved attending mass, cooking and canning, traveling, coaching Allison’s youth sports teams and watching her track races, and playing with his two grandsons. He was always organizing sibling pictures at Schroeder holiday gatherings. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and “Papa.”
Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Fr. Scott Kramer, Fr. Steve Schroeder, Fr. Ken Schnipke and Fr. Rick Friebel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m., Tuesday and 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. A scripture service will begin at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday evening.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial donations may be given to Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Center or School, or St. John the Baptist Parish Center.
