Norbert J. Miller
Ottoville -- Norbert J. Miller, 87, of Ottoville, died 3:22 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at his residence. He was born April 29, 1929 in Vaughnsville, to the late Stephan and Mary (Weber) Miller. On August 22, 1953 he married Angela Kahle who died September 1, 2016.
Norbert is survived by five children: Ronald (June) Miller of Ottoville, Debra (Steve) Klaus of Lima, Eugene (Sheila) Miller, Dennis "Bender" (Bonnie) Miller both of Ottoville, Randall (Darlene) Miller of Elida; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren with 3 more on the way; nine siblings: Ethel Burgei of Landeck, Ralph (Dorothy) Miller of Kalida, Luella Madigan of Wapakoneta, Irene Horner of Lima, Dolores Mesker of Delphos, Donald (Dorothy) Miller of Landeck, Donna (Bill) Schlagbaum of Delphos, Virgil Miller of Ottoville, and Art Miller of Florida.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Rita (Leon) Turnwald, Julie (Norm) Kaskel, Lenore Miller; four brothers-in-law: John Madigan, Orville Burgei, Donald Horner, Bob Mesker; and a sister-in-law: Judy Miller.
Norbert was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. He owned and retired from Norb Miller's Repair, and spent 20 years of retirement working for his son at Lock 16. Norb was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was on the Ottoville Volunteer Fire Department where he was the chief from 79-85, as well as one of the first members of the Ottoville EMS. He was on the Village Water Board and President of Farmer's Mutual. He loved to do wood working, play pinochle, loved spending time with his grandkids and was a sweet-aholic. He was a "project guy" and loved to help the family with theirs.
A Mass of Christian burial will begin 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, with the Very Reverend Jerome Schetter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery where there will be burial rites by the Ottoville VFW. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday from 2 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Twp.
Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or Community Health Professionals.
