Norbert L. "Nubby" Recker

KALIDA - Norbert L "Nubby" Recker, 97 died at  3:30 a.m. January 22, 2017 at Meadows of Kalida.  He was born October 24, 1919 to the late H. Charles and Magdeline (Verhoff) Recker.  On May 1, 1946, he married Angeline "Angie" Utendorf.  She went to be with the Lord on February 1, 2011.  They were married 64 years.

Survivors include eight children: Mary Jane (Joe) Eagleson of Kieferville,  John (Diana) Recker of Kalida, Joyce (Don) Giesige of Ottawa, Ron (Roxie) Recker of Defiance, Tom (Nancy) Recker of Lima, Joan (Nick) Schroeder of Columbus Grove,  Don (Brenda) Recker of Glandorf,  and Judy (Joe) Solomon of Columbus Grove; 31 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sister-in-laws: Winnie Recker of Las Vegas, Edna Utendorf of Ottawa and Marilyn Hamburg of Kalida.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Albert Recker, Omer Recker, Leander Recker; and a sister Martha Recker.

Norbert was a truck driver and farmer for all of his life.  He was a member of Ottawa VFW, Kalida Knights of Columbus, St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida and its Holy Name Society, and was a US WWII Army Veteran.  Nubby was known for being a Mr. Fixit.  There wasn't anything he wouldn't try to fix.  He especially enjoyed going hunting and fishing with his children, grandchildren and friends.   He always enjoyed a good game of solo or euchre.

A Mass of Christian Burial  will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2017 at St Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa American Legion, VFW and Am Vets.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25 and 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 26 at Love Funeral Home Ottawa.  A  VFW service will begin at 7:00 p.m. and a K of C rosary at 7:30 p.m on Thursday at the funeral home.
