Norbert J. Schroeder

FORT JENNINGS – Norbert J. Schroeder, 84, of Fort Jennings, passed away at 12:17 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2026, at his residence. He was born September 16, 1941, in Lima to the late Carl and Helen (Hoffman) Schroeder. In 1963, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Schimmoller, who survives in Fort Jennings.

Other survivors include three children: Laurie Leffler, Bruce (Mary) Schroeder and Steve (Shannon) Schroeder; six grandchildren: Morgan (Aaron) Schnipke, Matthew Schroeder, Macy (Bret) Slattman, Monica Schroeder, Heather Schroeder and Tricia Schroeder; four great-grandchildren: Talen Slattman, Shay Schnipke, Mallory Slattman and Cole Schnipke; two siblings: Errol (Judy) Schroeder and Mary VonLehmden; and a sister-in-law, Alma Jean Schroeder.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two siblings: Kenneth Schroeder and Alan Schroeder; and a brother-in-law, Ron VonLehmden.

Norbert was a lifelong farmer, homebuilder, and self-employed woodworking enthusiast, especially in cabinetry. He loved to pass along his woodworking skills and teaching others how to use his many tools. Norbert was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings and Delphos Country Club. He was a sports enthusiast, loved golfing and enjoyed watching The Ohio State Buckeyes, Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions. There wasn’t a farm he didn’t enjoy driving by. Above all, Norbert loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching them in their sporting events or just coloring with them.

Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 17, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings with Fr. Tony Vera officiating. Burial will be at a later date. An open house celebrating Norbert’s life will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
