IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norma Jean
(Ford) Slattman
June 1, 1940 – December 20, 2021
Norma Jean Slattman
CONTINENTAL – Norma Jean Slattman, aka Granny, 81 of Continental, passed away Monday, December 20, 2021 at the Defiance Inpatient Hospice surrounded by her family. She decided she had been here long enough without the love of her life and husband Alphonse Edward Slattman, deceased, who she married on June 16, 1956. She was born on June 1, 1940 in Putnam County to the late Everett and Viola (Cross) Ford.
Norma left behind two sons: Terry (Cindy) Slattman of Paulding and Edward (Dana) Slattman of Continental; three daughters: Tina (Rob) Breisinger, Tammy (Alan) Boecker, and Teresa (Mike) Varner, all of Continental. Granny was blessed with sixteen grandchildren: Chris, Cassy, Joe, Derek, Adam, Dan, Allen, Shawn, Kurtis, Autumn, Austin, Miranda, Melinda, Andrea, Chaz and Sherry. She also had thirty-six great-grandchildren, and her little white snow – Remy. Granny loved all of them dearly; even when they called her Granny Grump.
Also surviving are two brothers: Mike (Dee) Ford of Continental and Bob (Ruthann) Ford of Defiance; and one sister: Zelma (Gary) Black of California.
Norma was preceded in death by her step-mother, Irene Ford; a granddaughter, Monica Boecker; a great-granddaughter, Tori Boecker; three sisters, LeAnna Bohn, Kate Ford and Delores McMillen; two brothers, Paul Ford and Butch Ford.
Norma worked with Al at Al's Mower Sales since 1969. She had also worked at Lucky Lanes Bowling Alley and Bob's Carryout. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 541 and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Continental.
Granny enjoyed life to its fullest. She loved people and people loved her. She never knew a stranger and you were getting a hug whether you knew it or not. She was embraced as "Granny" to so many people, we don't actually know how many extended family members we have. She always said "I have the best family ever!" If you didn't create a funny memory with her, then you missed out on knowing this wonderful vibrant lady. Making memories, that is what this journey is all about.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Father Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
