Norman Birkemeyer
GLANDORF – Norman Robert Birkemeyer, 77, of Glandorf died at 1:21 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2013 at his residence. He was born May 23, 1936 in Columbus Grove to the late Harry and Nina (Karcher) Birkemeyer.  On September 6, 1958 he married Betty Kuhlman and she survives in Glandorf.
Also surviving are 4 children: Greg (Peg) Birkemeyer of Beavercreek, Gary Birkemeyer of Glandorf, Cathy (Dean) Niese of Maumee, and Beth (Tim) Heuerman of New Cleveland; 9 grandchildren: Kristin Birkemeyer, Jon Birkemeyer, Nathan (Jaye Marie) Niese, Alyssa Niese, Justin Niese, Erica Heuerman, Ross Heuerman, Kyle Heuerman, and Cory Heuerman;  2 great-grandchildren:  Braylon Dawson and Taylor Dawson; and 2 brothers: Vince Birkemeyer of Sun City Center, FL and Tom Birkemeyer of Columbus Grove. He was also preceded in death by a son: Douglas Birkemeyer; 2 brothers: Paul and Richard Birkemeyer; and a sister: Alice White.
Norman was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Glandorf. He worked at Ford in Lima for 40 years. He was a former mayor of Glandorf and was one of the founding members of Glandorf Park. During his 12 year term, along with the help of the Village Council he made many major improvements to Glandorf. He initiated the passing of the income tax ordinance to pay for water which was completed in 1977, the zoning ordinance established for installing sidewalks in the village, and plans for the sewer system in Glandorf. Norman was named a Distinguished Citizen of Glandorf.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Fr. Tony Fortman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where there will be a scripture service at 1:45 p.m. Memorials can be made to St. John's Parish Center or to Putnam County Home Health and Hospice.
