Nyle R. Stateler

CONTINENTAL – Nyle R. Stateler, 92, of Continental, died 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at The Meadows of Kalida.  He was born August 10, 1923 in Continental to the late Glen and Ida (Volland) Stateler.  On April 27, 1946, he married Helen Etter and she survives in Continental.

Other survivors include three daughters: Susan (Byron Dean) Manges of Ottawa, Patricia "Pat" (Jim) Lehman of Continental and Judith "Judy" (Doug) Kent of Lima; six grandchildren: Deana (Keith) Stechschulte of Windsor, CT, Brad (Robert Stephens) Manges of Mt. Sterling, Kyle (Kim) Lehman of Kalida, Emily Lehman of Continental, David (Katie) Kent of Tiffin and Lauran (Eric) Ward of Louisville, KY; six great-grandchildren: Alexandra Stechschulte, Jacob Stechschulte, Tyler Lehman, Catie Lehman, Wyatt Lehman and Brady Lehman.

He was also preceded in death by three sisters: Beulah Prowant, Virginia Mansfield and Norma Thorton; and three brothers: Gordon Stateler, Darold Stateler and his twin Lyle Stateler.

Nyle was the owner of Curtiss Show Print/Continental News Review; was a 1941 Continental High School graduate and a WWII Army Veteran.  He was a member of Continental United Methodist Church where he was the official bell ringer for many years and served on many committees, a charter member of the Continental Lion's Club, life member of the Continental American Legion #541, Continental Community Development Corporation, Boy Scout Committee Member, and Ohio Newspaper Association.  Nyle was an avid Cleveland Indians Fan and OSU fan and season ticket holder from 1947-2014.  He always said "I never worked a day in my life, because I enjoyed what I did".

Funeral service will begin 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2016 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Rev. Charles Schmunk officiating.  Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental with military rites by the Continental American Legion.  Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Saturday and one hour prior to the service Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Continental Library or Continental United Methodist Church.
